The Peapod Foundation, created by the Black Eyed Peas, collaborated with Adobe Youth Voices, a non-profit spearheaded by The Adobe Foundation, to create a new public service announcement. The PSA demonstrates the power of the arts and technology to engage youth from underserved communities.
Through their collaboration, the Peapod Foundation and Adobe Foundation have launched two Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academies that will give kids access to use video, dance, music, and art to spark social change in their communities.
“As a group, we’ve made a commitment to help give teens the artistic tools and opportunities to help them realize their fullest potential,” says Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas abercrombie , who grew up in the projects in the Boyle Heights district of Los Angeles, California. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of Adobe Youth Voices, we are able to expand our vision and give even more kids a chance to be productive, enterprising adults.”
The academies will incorporate a high-tech curriculum developed by Adobe Youth Voices with the latest professional-grade multi-media production software – including Adobe’ Creative Suite’ 4 Master Collection Suite, donated by Adobe Systems Incorporated, and professional music studio tools for a state-of-the-art recording facility donated by the Peapod Foundation. In addition to mentoring in the performing arts, youth participants will receive structured multi-media training in video, audio, photography, design and art, enabling them to creatively express their points of view on vital issues and contribute to social change in their communities.
The aim of the campaign is to nurture self-expression, creativity, community involvement, and digital literacy among young people — the kind of education these organizations feel is critical for today’s youth.

The City of New York’s Medical Examiner Report concluded that Heath Ledger’s cause of death was “the result of acute intoxication by the combine effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine”. Recent investigations and medical warnings have concentrated on the lethal combination of prescription drugs such as narcotic analgesics and sleeping aids. However, the medical community have ignored – and have been ignoring for some time – the underlying prescription drug class that often leads to habitual drug dependency with dangerous lethal consequences. Two of the drugs listed on Ledger’s report are the most insidious, potentially dangerous, highly prescribed and, yet, the most overlooked and under-estimated by doctors. These drugs can start the chain reaction that potentially leads to Vicodin or sleeping pill abuse.

The first time I saw Heath Ledger, it was by accident. My date and later to-be husband, Nick, took me to see ‘The Sixth Sense’, finally succumbing to peer pressure to guess ‘the big surprise ending’. By now, ‘The Sixth Sense’ was off the major theatre chain circuit and only screening in small suburban independent theatres, which led us to experience one of those now rare events: a double-feature matinee. The first movie was ’10 Things I Hate About You’.

Well passed ‘teen’ movies, even those with Shakespearian-based scripts, we shyly admitted to liking ’10 Things’. Wow, I really like the male lead, what was his name? “He’s Australian, you know”, replied Nick. And in typical Aussie-fashion, I was doubly impressed and now stupidly filled with national pride. Another brilliant Australian up-and-comer to join the rapidly increasing queue to grace Hollywood screens.

Years later, I would often grab the DVD to fill a cheerless afternoon and find myself watching and rewinding the same scene. Over and over and over again. My secret guilty pleasure. Heath sliding down the pole, microphone in hand, singing “You’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you …” The brass band kicks in. And that charmingly defiant half-run, half-prancing across the school steps. The scene is brilliant. It’s inexplicable. He simply has that old-fashioned ‘it’ factor . I’m not a star-struck fan and was never one of those teenagers with movie-star idol posters plastered all over my bedroom walls, but this kid’s got talent.

And then came those scene-stealing roles that totally blew us away. The Patriot. Monster’s Ball. And finally leading-man status and an Academy Award nomination. By now, we were just used to having another famous Australian up there with the rest of the world’s great talent churning out an endless array of diverse, yet illustrious film roles.

We had no idea. It was not endless. It ended on 22 January 2008.

When people who I’ve never met but greatly admire die, I’m sad. But I’ve never cried before. I have never before felt that heart wrenching overwhelming shock that lasted for days after I heard the news. This time it was somehow more personal. As soon as I read the detailed list of the first report of his deathbed scene, I intuitively knew how he died.

Ten days later the final medical examiner’s report confirmed my suspicions.

Hollywood is ‘Xanax-city’. Feeling down, pop a Xanax. Feeling stressed, pop a Xanax. Need to perform at your very best, pop a Xanax. A-list stars feel the pressure to provide A-grade performances when working on multi-million dollar films. There’s too much money at stake. The intense stress, both internal and external jordan high heels , is immeasurable. The studios are risking billions, paying the stars millions, and the actors are unnaturally subjected to more pressure than we mere mortals can imagine.

Heath Ledger, himself, admitted that after the worldwide release of ‘A Knight’s Tale’ with its instant paparazzi-bulb-flashing stardom, his stress levels increased ten-fold.

Xanax is the trade name of the generic anti-anxiety/tranquilliser prescription drug, alprazolam, listed in Ledger’s toxicity report. The other anti-anxiety drug was diazepam, or more commonly known as Valium. These drugs are from a class of commonly prescribed tranquillisers known as benzodiazepines or simply referred to as benzos.

According to the latest National Health Study, approximately 10 million scripts of benzos are written annually in Australia alone with its meagre population of 20 million compared to 300 million in the US. Many doctors will write a script for benzos faster than a speeding bullet. But the real danger is that too many of them do not know the long-term effects these drugs have on your system, how to give their patients the correct advice when administering or monitoring the dosages, and – more frighteningly – how to manage their patients’ benzo withdrawal program.

Firstly, this is how benzos affect your body – or more importantly – your brain. Benzodiazepines increase, or rather, enhance your brain’s main neurotransmitter, commonly known as GABA. Eventually, and this can be as quickly as 3 to 4 weeks if taking a daily dose, your brain will stop producing its own GABA and rely totally on the artificial benzo.

GABA is the most important neurotransmitter because it affects just about everything else. Primarily it enhances the brain’s other neurotransmitters such as Serotonin and Dopamine. All of the brain’s neurotransmitters have important functions such as, voluntary movement of the muscles, wakefulness, sleep, memory function, sensory transmission – especially pain, and much, much more.

The problem is that from this point on your brain needs more benzo as tolerance starts the downward spiral, and the brain needs higher and higher dosages to obtain the same effect. If the patient is not given the correct dosage or management advice, that insidious and often-undiagnosed disorder known as Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome (BWS) will start its ugly and potentially dangerous descent.

BWS is known by experts in the field for its severity and prolonged nature. It may take years to fully withdraw from benzos, even with proper care and supervision. Without this knowledge, the unwitting patient can suffer from over 30 symptoms, the most common being unrelenting insomnia, severe pain and mood changes. People who have been taking benzos for a relatively short time can experience withdrawal symptoms even whilst taking the drug. In addition, if you have been taking them for a prolonged time, and then suddenly stop, dire circumstances may happen. Or, at the very least, more pain, more depression and unrelenting insomnia.

When we now read about Heath Ledger’s complaints his about his incessant insomnia and the possesseion of strong painkillers, does this sound familiar? Everything points to extreme Benzo Withdrawal, but no-one is exclaiming its dangers. In fact, most MDs and even hospital doctors admit they know very little about Benzo Withdrawal. Some even refer their patients to drug rehabilitation centres – an absolute no-no according to benzo counsellors. Benzo withdrawal is the exact opposite to alcohol or street drug dependency. You don’t want to abruptly eliminate the benzo from your body, as they often do in drug rehabilitation. The brain needs the benzo. One must gradually withdraw the artificial benzo until the brain can eventually increase its own GABA. Sudden cessation of benzos can cause severe problems such as seizures and blackouts.

When in BWS, the counsellors advise against taking any medication or drugs whatsoever. Paracetamol is probably the only thing the body can cope with for pain relief. Nothing else. Even codeine is forbidden. Also, one should totally refrain from alcohol, caffeine, and all stimulants. There is a strong protocol to be followed and without this knowledge, the patient is easily put at great risk.

The Ashton Manual, the acknowledged benzodiazepine ‘bible’, warns:

“Drug interactions: Benzodiazepines have additive effects with other drugs with sedative actions including other hypnotics, some antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline [Elavil], doxepin [Adapin, Sinequan]), major tranquillisers or neuroleptics (e.g. prochlorperazine [Compazine], trifluoperazine [Stelazine]), anticonvulsants (e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin [Dilantin], carbamazepine [Atretol, Tegretol]), sedative antihistamines (e.g. diphenhydramine [Benadryl], promethazine [Phenergan]), opiates (heroin, morphine, meperidine), and, importantly, alcohol. Patients taking benzodiazepines should be warned of these interactions. If sedative drugs are taken in overdose, benzodiazepines may add to the risk of fatality.”

The real problem is that there are extremely few experts in treating BWS; they will not include your local doctor, hospital, or drug clinic. However, there are good BWS specialists that can be extremely helpful, but they are usually found in specially funded tranquilliser recovery clinics.

One must ask, why don’t doctors know about this? The problem is they simply don’t. Is it their fault or the pharmaceutical companies that profit from these addictions? There is little or no dissemination of information within the community, the medical fraternity or from the pharmaceutical companies about benzodiazepines. And, according to BWS counselors working in the field, there is insufficient research or empirical studies on the effects of benzos and BWS management to assist them with their intensive workloads.

Why? Who is at fault? Who is responsible for remedying the situation? Why are the people who write the scripts uninformed about the after-effects and potential dangers associated with benzodiazepines?

Can our beloved Heath Ledger’s death be at least one catalyst that will draw this devastating travesty to the public’s attention to demand more information?

I hope so.

Miranda Lambert Eyes Royals’ Wow Factor – OFFSTAGE
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that is happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)
All brides, even celebrity brides, obsess about weddings leading up to their own. So of course Miranda Lambert is no different. She got up last Friday (April 29) morning to watch Prince William officially become the honey bee to his honeysuckle Kate Middleton. And Lambert told CMT Radio that she wants her wedding to be kind of the same.
“Ours is so different, obviously. But, I think it was gorgeous,” she said of the royal nuptials. “Just the wow factor of the royal wedding was, you know, every bride wants a wow factor and even though ours won’t be in a palace or with 1,500 guests, I still hope that it has that same wow factor.” She may be counting on country singer Neal McCoy to bring the wow, as he’s been confirmed as the entertainment for the reception at her May 14 marriage to Blake Shelton.

Candice Boucher is regarded as a South African model. Magazines she has modeled for feature FHM, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Sports Illustrated and Elle. This lady has appeared in advertising campaigns for Fila and Speed, and she is currently among the faces of Intimissimi and Guess Jeans. She appeared in a pictorial and on the cover of the April 2010 issue of Playboy magazine.
She states that that her greatest feature are her blue eyes, and she utilizes these to attract men. In an interview with FHM, Boucher said: “I believe it is actually in the eyes. I try to acquire his attention with a subtle gaze and a flap of the eye lids!”
Candice Boucher on the cover of 2010 South Africa Sports Illustrated (SASI) Swimwear issue, that is introduced this month. Candice has made an appearance in the annual swimwear edition in 2006, and with the exception of 2007, has been featured successively in 2008, 2009, and 2010, also making the cover this coming year.
The self-described tomboy and shy gal went a step beyond lingerie and swimwear modeling, by doing a photography shoot for the April 2010 issue of Playboy . Candice got the coverage and her feature had been unimaginatively titled “Undressed in Africa”. The photos were shot at a personal lodge in Southern Kenya, the place where a nude Candice crouched in front of lions, posed with tribal women, and held animal skulls:
But even with all her modeling Candice Boucher retains a few of her schoolgirl shyness now. In an interview with Cosmopolitan South Africa, Candice states that Playboy had been pursuing her for several years, but she had turned down naked photo shoots each and every time. Last but not least, soon after consulting with her agent, Boucher opted for disrobe for Playboy yet only because it would raise attention for her charitable organization “My Life”.

For people who follow the international sport of cricket, and so are familiar with the South African cricket team, will know of their popular player named Mark Boucher. People often believed that he and Candice were siblings, or in some way linked, but in an interview with The Star newspaper she cleared up that they are not. “Evidently he could be a second-cousin-twice removed, aunty’s, cousin’s son type of thing? We’ve never met. The confusion comes in because he’s dating a Candice [model Candice Nicholson] and i’m with a Mark [model Mark Visser].”

Susan Boyle Checks Into Rehab…

Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle checked into The Priory clinic last night after suffering an ‘emotional breakdown.’ Police were called to the singer’s hotel room after the shows aides reported she was ‘acting strangely.’ A police spokeswoman confirmed:

“We were called about 6pm on Sunday to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act. Police attended at the request of ambulance personnel and the woman was taken voluntarily to a clinic.”

Speculation has been rife that Susan has been struggling to cope with the pressures of fame and following Saturday nights final she reportedly ran down the corridor shouting, “I hate this show.” Perhaps the time has come for Susan to step out of the limelight.

Michael Jackson Postpones His Tour…

If you were one of the lucky Michael Jackson fans that managed to snap up tickets for his early shows then you are going to be bitterly disappointed to hear three of the initial dates have been moved to March 2010!!

It’s been revealed that Jacko’s opening night has moved from the 8th July to the 13th, which isn’t really a big deal, but the news he’s also moving the 10th, 12th and 14th July to March next year wont go down well with his loyal fans.

Promoters and producers AEG Live claim it was a “tough” decision to make and they insist they wont be moving any more dates, as if that’s any sort of conciliation to the people who thought they were going to see him first and are now lumbered with seeing him last?! But Randy Phillips, president and CEO of AEG Live, said the change had “absolutely nothing to do with (Jackson’s) health” and any people that cannot make the rescheduled dates will receive a full refund.

How long do you reckon before he cancels the entire thing? We all know it’s coming….

Katie & Peter Have Split!!

Well we didn’t see this one coming and if we’re honest we’re struggling to get our heads around the news but the official statement from Katie and Peter’s camp reads:

Peter Andre and Katie Price are separating after four and a half years of marriage, Can Associates Limited can confirm today.

They have both requested that the media respect their families’ privacy at this difficult time.

Please note: This is the only statement/comment that Can Associates Ltd, Peter Andre and Katie Price will be making

Rihanna Flees After Explicit Photos Leaked…

Rihanna is said to be embarrassed and devastated after a set of raunchy pictures of the star posing naked were leaked online.

The images, which show the singer revealing intimate parts of herself in a hotel bathroom, made their way onto the internet on Friday and since then Rihanna has fled Hollywood and headed to Hawaii where she intends to remain for the time being. A friend of the star said:

“She is freaking out. She was on the road to recovery after a terrible few months. She has no idea how these pictures have been leaked but she’s determined to find out. She’s rushed off to Hawaii to escape the scrutiny.”

“She’s recording her new album and wants to shut herself in the studio away from the world for a few days.”

One of the leaked photos shows a man, believed to be Chris Brown, sitting in the hotel room with a pair of pink knickers on his head. Since the emergence of the images Rihanna’s record label Island Def Jam have demanded that they be removed as they “violate the artist’s rights”, however her lawyers have not yet denied that the photos are genuine. Click Here to see some of the more explicit shots.

Jodie Marsh Takes Up Body Building!!

When we first saw these pictures of Jodie Marsh’s new body we got a mental image of her sitting at home twiddling her thumbs whilst thinking, “pretending to be a lesbian didn’t get me much publicity so what should I do next?! I know I’ll become a bodybuilder, that will get people talking….”

The former glamour girl has reportedly dropped three dress sizes and is planning to drop another stone as she continues to beef up her body.

Showing off her new look in the latest issue of New! magazine Jodie revealed she’s been hitting the gym for past six months and “As I saw my body changing, I really liked my muscles and as Tim (her personal trainer) is a body builder it just went from there” she explains before adding, “I might do a bodybuilder competition in August.”

Whatever next?!

Gentlemen prefer blondes but this autumn the stars prefer brunette! Celebrity hair stylists are confirming what we’ve noticed already – that though blonde is always popular, brunette is the hit colour for the season. Celebrity gossip blogs have caught Hilary Duff, Kim Kardashian, Alexis Bledel and Demi Lovato stepping out with new shades of caramel, cinnamon, dark honey and chestnut with lots of subtle multi-tones that look healthy and rich.

Cinnamon

Look to Alexis Bledel, star of cult classic show The Gilmore Girls, for a stunning example of a dark auburn. If you’ve got fair, milky skin like Alexis, the vibrant red undertones of cinnamon will bring your porcelain skin to life. This shade looks particularly great with blue or green eyes, creating a complementing contrast to make your eyes stand out.

Dark Honey

Hilary Duff is our celebrity poster girl for dark honey colour after she was seen stepping out of a Beverley Hills hair salon with this flattering new look. The former Lizzie Maguire actress has been out of the celebrity news since her marriage to Canadian hockey player Mike Comrie, but with such a beautiful shade we’re thinking she’ll be back. Always the classic Californian blonde, Hilary has gone for a warmer, multi-tonal buttery colour. The deep golden shade is great for all skin tones, warming up the complexion and giving even the fairest skin a touch of bronze. This shade is also a gentle way of going brunette if you’ve been a confirmed blonde until now.

Chestnut

Our favourite chestnut is Kim Kardashian. The curvy star model and reality TV star has always been a glossy brunette but her dark, almost-black shade could sometimes be a bit severe. Her new hair colour is two shades lighter, a warmer, more chocolaty shade. It’s a softer choice for Kim but is still in the same colour family of her olive skin. She’s also added discreet and subtle highlights that add depth that va-va-voom volume.

Caramel

Like Kim, Disney starlet Demi Lovato was a dark, almost-black brunette. For Autumn she’s lightened up with a multi-tonal caramel that marries Kim’s chestnut and Hilary’s honey shades. The caramel highlights on a deep-brown base is very flattering on her olive skin tone and makes her eyes pop.

Tips to get that celebrity brunette shade

If you’re a confirmed blonde and are thinking of making the transition from light to dark, go gradual. You could ask your colourist to add some darker shades to your usual head of highlights. If you like the result, you could go for deeper tones and go three to four shades darker.

It’s also important to go for a multi-dimensional, tonal shading. A solid shade can look harsh particularly if you have a lighter skin tone. Ask your colourist to add tone-on-tone highlights. This also will make your hair look voluminous, natural and healthy.

Don’t forget to maintain your locks too! Brunette dye tends to fade to reddish undertones over time. Pick up a shampoo with colour pigments to keep your shade glossy and chocolaty after you leave the salon.
