And the rain fell, and the rivers rose, andthe winds blew, and beat about that house, and it did not godown, for its foundations were on rock. And anyone wholistens to this teaching of mine and does not act upon it, willbe like a foolish man who built his house on sandI” Matthew7:24-27 Explaining the parable of the sower “The seed is God’smessage. The ones by the path are those who hear, andthen the devil comes and carries off the message from theirhearts, so that they may not believe it and be saved. Theones on the rock are those who receive the message joyfullywhen they first hear it, but it takes no real root.” Luke 8:10-16.
“Think of the crows! They do not sow or reap, and theyhave no storehouses or barns, ad God feeds them. Howmuch more are you worth than the birds!” Luke 12:24-25 “Salt is good; but if salt loses its strength, what can it beseasoned with It is fit neither for the ground nor for themanure heap; people throw it away.” Luke 14:34-35 Admittedly, some of the parables, like the Good Samaritan, are of intellectual substance. But most of them seem purelystipulative.
They are not of the form (as you say) “1. X is a good thing when humans do it. “2. God is good. “3.

DOLLS_HOUSESETTINGOTHER ELEMENTS-SETTING-A Doll’s House takes place in a large Norwegian town. The entiredrama unfolds on one set, a “comfortable room” in the Helmers’ housethat serves both as a drawing room in which to receive guests and as afamily room where the children play and where the family sets up itsChristmas tree.
There is a door to the entryway and another toTorvald’s study.Ibsen describes this setting in minute detail. About midwaythrough his career, he adapted a style of drama that has been called”photographic.
” Instead of creating various country or city scenesas background for his characters, he “takes a picture” of one roomthey inhabit. Every piece of furniture, every prop reveals thecharacter of the people who live in this place. For example, in theHelmers’ drawing room there is a “small bookcase with richly boundbooks.” What better way to describe Torvald, their owner, than as”richly bound”- someone who looks good from the outside Also, theChristmas tree serves to represent various stages in Nora Helmer’slife. When her life appears happy, the tree is beautifully trimmed. When her happiness is shattered, the tree is stripped and drooping.Ibsen has described the set and its props precisely, so that everyproduction will reproduce this same “photograph” of the Helmers’living room.Probably the most significant thing about the setting of this playis that it concerns middle-class characters and values. It takes placein an unnamed city, where banking and law would be considered normaland respectable occupations. Banking is the occupation most closelyassociated with money, the symbol of middle-class goals, and thecrimes of the charactersNora, her father, and Krogstadare monetaryones.

Topics Share Term paper on God And Satan In Milton S Paradise Lost In John Milton’s Paradise Lost, he tells of Satan’s banishment from Heaven. He and his brigade have plotted war against God and are now doomed to billow in the fiery pits of hell.
Satan is a complex character with many meaningful qualities. The relationship between Satan’s qualities and Hell’s atmosphere tell the reader more about why they seem to go hand in hand. Without Satan’s features and Hell’s tormenting aspects, the place would not be all it is.Milton states that one will dwell in adamantine chains and penal fire if he defy’s God.
Satan definitely defied him and will therefore suffer this. Chains are symbolic of Satan in that they will tie one down and keep him under control. Satan has disobeyed God and needs to be tied restrained and controlled. The fire is only to show Satan’s primary intentions. Fire indicates evil and pain, both of which he is a part of. He is the creator of evil just as God is the creator of all.

” The disaster in Lisbon affected Voltaire’s life so much that he wrote the Poem on the Lisbon Disaster, but Pangloss’ philosophy said that the Lisbon earthquake was necessary in the course of nature, and there was definitely a rationale for the situation. War is another evil which Voltaire satirizes in Candide. Voltaire used the Bulgarians and their brutality as a basis for his satire on war. Voltaire writes how Candide was captured by the Bulgarians and is given a choice “to be beaten thirty-six times by the whole regiment, or receive twelve lead bullets at once in his brain.” Being the “hero” he is, Candide chooses to run the gauntlet. Instead of the thirty-six times he was to run the gauntlet, our “hero” made it only two until he pleaded to the Bulgarians to smash in his head. Another satire of war included in Candide is the Bulgarians’ burning of the Abarian village “in accordance with the rules of international law.
” Voltaire also shows his satire on war in that the Bulgarian soldiers do not just kill other people, they rape disembowel, and dismember innocent women and children. In fact, Candide’s training as a soldier involved being brutalized and beaten.

Simply put, because we are human beings we merit respect from ourselves and others, therefore we ought to respect ourselves and others. Jason PyrzPage 7 of 8If it were up to me to pick a single theory for everyone to live by, it would undoubtedly have to be the respect for persons theory.
Not just because it is the most politically correct sounding of the three, but because I have problems with the implications of the other two. The problem I have with egoism, is that I know that I have feelings for other people, and that I care about other people. Although I may not be as caring as some people, I do have feelings, so I know that I cannot live by the egoist rule of “no actions out of caring.” The problem I have with utilitarianism is the obsession with equality.
I cannot see how someone could sacrifice someone they love in order to make some people happy that they don’t even care about. We are all humans, with feelings and emotions, if we were all brainwashed to believe that we should treat everyone the same, no matter what the relationship, family-based society as we’ve known it since the beginning of history would collapse, and be replaced by an unfeeling, robot-like state. Respect for persons is the only theory that allows you to make a choice between actions, as long as they are morally right in terms of treating people with respect. This is important, because you have a chance to make a choice that may benefit someone or something you care about, regardless of how many people it makes happy, or if you further your own self-interest.

For who is to say what happiness can be created from wedlock but the people that are in the act itself, per couple, household and gender. The Uniform Marriage and Divorce Act proclaim that “All marriages contractedoutside this State that were valid at the time of the contract or subsequently validated by the laws of the place in which they were contractedare valid in this State”. This Act has been enacted in seventeen states and could be the foundation for full faith and credit if marriages were to take place in other states. However as much as the right wing conservatives wish to pursue an aggressive anti-gay/lifestyle agenda the DOMA act has been widelycriticized as intensely unconstitutional. It is bias and discriminatory toward homosexuals and there fore against the United States Constitution and once again the fourteenth amendment proclaiming all citizens equal.
Fearing that the state may have to recognize same-gender marriages from Hawaii, because of the controversy over DOMA the state legislatures of Arizona, South Dakota, Utah, Oklahoma, Kansas, Idaho, and Georgia, have made preemptive strikes and enacted state legislation which bars recognition of same-gender marriages. Several other state legislatures, including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Louisiana, New Mexico, Kentucky, Maine, South Carolina and Wisconsin, have attempted toenact similar legislation, but failed.
After Hawaiian marriages arebrought to these states for enforcement, these laws will lead each state into a potential separate constitutional challenge of its same-gender marriage ban. Those cases could be the new foundation for a sweeping change in popular American politics and thought and will perhaps pave the road for increased awareness of this human rights issue. Leaving aside, as government should, objections that may be held by particular religions, the case against same-gender marriage is simply that people are unaccustomed to it.

At last Candy said softly and hopelessly, Awright-take im. (Page 52)Candy s dreams shifted in the story when his dog dies and he suddenly becomes interested when George gives him the idea to come and start a ranch with him and Lennie. It almost seemed as if Candy had no reason to go on after his dog died. Having new dreams arise to him made him look ahead and kept him more interested in life. Curley s wife had a similar form of loneliness as Candy s when his dog was put down. Curley s wife didn t feel as if she had anything to live for. She seemed to have raised nothing but trouble and temptation between the men. Curley s wife didn t lose all that much in the end because she had nothing ahead of her, nothing to look forward to, and she was effected and suffering with her dreams and loneliness. I get lonely, she said.
You can talk. (Page 95)Even her marriage was admitted by the author as a mistake. Curley, on the other hand, was the opposite and took his problems using anger and frustration.

As Pauline learned these guidelines, she gave birth to Pecola and got a job as a black “mammy” to a white family. She quickly learned that when she was in the company of her white family, who were equal, happy, and worthy in the eyes of society, it rubbed off on her and she felt as if she was part of all these positive virtues. On the other hand, the more time she spent with her own black family, the more time she realized how ugly, poor, and unworthy they were. It was as if “the master had said, `you are ugly people.’ They had looked about themselves and saw nothing to contradict the statement; saw, in fact, support for it leaning at them from every billboard, every movie, every glance” (Morrison 39). In coming upon this realization, Pauline has a decision to make. She could have stuck with her biological family, continued to be unsatisfied but be accepted as an equal, or she could completely give up on her own family and devote all her time, energy, and love on her white charges.
To Pauline this decision is obvious and she makes it hastily. Without a second thought she mentally leaves her family in place for her “Perfect Life”. However she fails to realize that by committing herself to a servant’s life that’s all she will ever amount to beA black servant in a white world.
Have all of the characters found their identity Pecola Breedlove yearned for blue eyes. At the end of the book she believes that she has those blue eyes.

But the art of animation is even older than that. In fact, an invention called the magic lantern, which projected animation by moving a strip back and forth, was invented in 1645 by Althanasius Kircher. Around 1915, a technique of using celluloid sheets in animation was established. By painting on these clear plastic cels, they could then transpose more than one cel on a static background. This technique is still used by some animators today. Walt Disney made several breakthroughs by making the first animation with sound and the first animation in color. It was on December 21, 1937 that Walt made history again with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” — it was the first feature-length animation! Snow White was the top grossing film for its time. Those are the important details to the history of animation, although I have not done justice in explaining the many great works created by the many very talented animators of the time.
Japanese anime seems to be this new fresh breed of animation, even though it has its roots in American animation. It boggles my mind how many Americans today prefer a cheap imitation over something that is real and genuine. They say that Japanese anime is of better quality and looks better than our own animation. In doing so, they have overlooked a pearl that is much closer to home.
